Description: About Rapid River

North Western mountains of Maine. Part of the Androscoggin river basin, flowing from Lower Richardson Lake at Middle Dam to Cedar Stump at Lake Umbagog in New Hampshire. A seven miles long river with Pond in the River, a 400 acre pond at mile two heading west, just above the famous Lower Dam. The Rapid is an outstanding Native Brook trout and Land Lock salmon fishery. In the 1980's, Small Mouth bass were introduced to Lake Umbagog, and have since migrated through the entire river. Numerous studies have been conducted by Maine's IF&W and others. The fishery to this day remains exciting and very productive for Brook Trout and Land Locks. It is rare to have a bad fishing day on the Rapid due to the density of the fish population.
