Description: About Lake Henshaw

Lake Henshaw is located 35 miles north east of downtown San Diego. It is a shallow lake with vast sand and mud flats. Once known as one of the finest largemouth bass fisheries in the nation Henshaw is now know for its outstanding flats style fly rodding for carp! Yes carp! With its clear water, hard sand bottom and huge volume of carp, Henshaw is a sight casters dream! Carp ranging from 5 to 20 pounds are common and these great gamefish can be caught on the surface with dry flies or by casting bonefish style patterns to big schools of tailing carp on the flats. June is the time for the annual " Yellow Hopper" hatch which brings some of the finest Hopper action fishing anywhere.
