The Reel Baja's Tip of the Week
With the weather getting hot some of the best fishing will be early in the morning and late afternoon. Concrete on those times especially if fishing from the beach. The fish can certainly be active other times of day but those “magic hours” can be some of the best.

The Reel Baja5-Day Outlook as of 7/17/25
We expect good weather and good fishing this upcoming week. We will see a little wind in the afternoons from the Southeast it that is typical for this time of year. The fishing should remain steady as the water temperatures are looking good.
Techniques & Tips as of 7/17/25
Inshore - This time of year we see a lot of action early in the mornings as well as the low light hours in the evenings. People tend to over look these time periods. If you want some great action get up and on the water early or fish a little later in the day as those "magic" hours can be great. Offshore - have a few different rods ready from 8wt. to 12/14wt as you never know what you might encounter as far as species and size of fish. It never fails you will be running to a destination and you run into feeding fish on your way. You need to be ready for anything before you leave the dock.
Current Conditions as of 7/17/25
The fly fishing action here in the East Cape continues to deliver, especially for roosterfish, which remain the main event. We’re seeing good numbers of medium-sized roosters from the boat, and the beach fishing has been solid as well, with anglers connecting consistently along the shore. Even more exciting, some bigger fish are starting to show up off the beach, giving fly anglers a real shot at a trophy without ever stepping on a boat. If you’re targeting true giants, bait fishing offshore is still the most reliable way to hook into those heavyweights. Marlin fishing has been steady offshore, providing consistent opportunities for those looking to get in on the action with either fly or conventional gear. In addition, a few yellowfin tuna have started to reappear in the mix, hinting at a possible uptick in tuna activity as we move deeper into summer. We are currently watching a storm system moving past the area, which is bringing wind and less-than-ideal conditions for today and tomorrow. However, the forecast looks good, and we expect conditions to improve by Friday, with calmer seas and better visibility returning for the weekend. With a mix of solid beach and boat opportunities, now is a great time to get out on the water—just keep a close eye on the weather over the next day or two.Local Species Available Year Round
