The Reel Baja's Tip of the Week
With the weather getting hot some of the best fishing will be early in the morning and late afternoon. Concrete on those times especially if fishing from the beach. The fish can certainly be active other times of day but those “magic hours” can be some of the best.

The Reel Baja5-Day Outlook as of 1/7/26
We expect good weather and good fishing this upcoming week. We will see a little wind in the afternoons from the Southeast it that is typical for this time of year. The fishing should remain steady as the water temperatures are looking good.
Techniques & Tips as of 1/7/26
Inshore - This time of year we see a lot of action early in the mornings as well as the low light hours in the evenings. People tend to over look these time periods. If you want some great action get up and on the water early or fish a little later in the day as those "magic" hours can be great. Offshore - have a few different rods ready from 8wt. to 12/14wt as you never know what you might encounter as far as species and size of fish. It never fails you will be running to a destination and you run into feeding fish on your way. You need to be ready for anything before you leave the dock.

Baja California Fishing Report – East Cape / Los Barriles We’ve just wrapped up an incredible run at Magdalena Bay, where the fishing truly delivered. We saw lots of marlin, dorado, and tuna, with the marlin fishing being absolutely spectacular. It was one of those trips that reminds you why Magdalena Bay is such a special destination. Here in the East Cape out of Los Barriles, fishing has been a bit more scattered but still producing. There are dorado and skipjack tuna around, along with the occasional roosterfish. The roosterfish we’ve been seeing have been on the smaller side, generally in the 8–10 pound range, cruising the beach and nearshore structure. We are expecting wind in the East Cape over the next four to five days, which will likely limit fishing opportunities for a short stretch. As always, conditions can change quickly, and once the wind settles, we expect things to improve. We are already taking reservations for next year in the East Cape, and prime dates tend to fill early. I’ll be headed to the Bahamas just after Christmas and will return mid-January, but bookings and inquiries are always welcome in the meantime. We want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thank you to all of our friends and anglers for another great season. We’re looking forward to 2026, spending time on the water together, and catching lots of fish. Tight lines, The Reel BajaLocal Species Available Year Round
