The Reel Baja's Tip of the Week
With the weather getting hot some of the best fishing will be early in the morning and late afternoon. Concrete on those times especially if fishing from the beach. The fish can certainly be active other times of day but those “magic hours” can be some of the best.

The Reel Baja5-Day Outlook as of 3/25/26
We expect good weather and good fishing this upcoming week. We will see a little wind in the afternoons from the Southeast it that is typical for this time of year. The fishing should remain steady as the water temperatures are looking good.
Techniques & Tips as of 3/25/26
Inshore - This time of year we see a lot of action early in the mornings as well as the low light hours in the evenings. People tend to over look these time periods. If you want some great action get up and on the water early or fish a little later in the day as those "magic" hours can be great. Offshore - have a few different rods ready from 8wt. to 12/14wt as you never know what you might encounter as far as species and size of fish. It never fails you will be running to a destination and you run into feeding fish on your way. You need to be ready for anything before you leave the dock.
Current Conditions as of 3/25/26
The weather this past week in Baja has been about as good as you could ask for. Winds were down, seas were calm, and it made for some really nice conditions on the water. Morning temperatures were in the low 60s, with daytime highs getting up into the mid 80s. The fishing has been solid, especially on the dorado front. They are not really schooled up yet, but on the calm mornings we’ve been seeing singles cruising and pushing water with their heads up. When we get a few sardines in front of them and get them boiling, it has given us some great chances to cast flies to them. We’ve also had good tuna fishing, with some quality fish up to around 50 pounds. Most of those fish have been associated with porpoise and have been found offshore, generally in the 20- to 40-mile range. On top of that, we’ve been having fun with some big bonita as well. They’ve been a little closer in, and when we find them, they’ve been eating flies. Inshore, we’ve been seeing roosters both right along the beach and just offshore. There is a lot of small bait around right now, and both the roosters and, every once in a while, dorado have been pushing it around and chasing it. That has made for some really fun sight-fishing opportunities. We’re also starting to see some billfish, which is making the offshore action even more interesting. It definitely feels like spring has started early, with warmer water showing up sooner than usual. People are already talking about a possible super El Niño this year, and if what we saw this week is any sign of what’s ahead, it could shape up to be a really great season.Local Species Available Year Round
