The Reel Baja's Tip of the Week
With the weather getting hot some of the best fishing will be early in the morning and late afternoon. Concrete on those times especially if fishing from the beach. The fish can certainly be active other times of day but those “magic hours” can be some of the best.

The Reel Baja5-Day Outlook as of 5/25/26
We expect good weather and good fishing this upcoming week. We will see a little wind in the afternoons from the Southeast it that is typical for this time of year. The fishing should remain steady as the water temperatures are looking good.
Techniques & Tips as of 5/25/26
Inshore - This time of year we see a lot of action early in the mornings as well as the low light hours in the evenings. People tend to over look these time periods. If you want some great action get up and on the water early or fish a little later in the day as those "magic" hours can be great. Offshore - have a few different rods ready from 8wt. to 12/14wt as you never know what you might encounter as far as species and size of fish. It never fails you will be running to a destination and you run into feeding fish on your way. You need to be ready for anything before you leave the dock.

Baja Fly Fishing Report – East Cape Fishing Update | Dorado, Tuna, Roosterfish, Marlin & Wahoo This past week here in Baja we dealt with a little bit of wind, including a couple days of north wind early on that forced us to cancel a few trips, but overall the fishing remained very good. Offshore fishing has continued to produce with scattered dorado, tuna, marlin, and even some quality wahoo showing up over the past several days. Most of the offshore action has been in the 20–25 mile range, often around porpoise schools where the tuna have been holding. The dorado have been somewhat scattered, with some fish mixed offshore and a few showing up closer to the beach as well. We’re still seeing good amounts of bait in the area, although getting bait has become a little more challenging along the inside lately. For our inshore fly fishing anglers, roosterfish and jack crevalle continue to provide action along the beaches. The beach fishing has been fair to good, with fish spread out, while the boat fishing has generally been the stronger option lately simply because it allows us to cover more water and stay on active fish. That said, there are definitely opportunities in both areas depending on conditions and what you’re hoping to target. One thing worth noting is water temperature. The water is currently running a couple degrees warmer than what we’d typically expect this time of year here along the East Cape. There’s already talk about a possible strong El Niño setup developing, though of course we’ll have to wait and see how that actually unfolds. Warmer water can mean interesting opportunities for pelagic species, but with hurricane season officially beginning on May 15, it’s definitely something we’ll be keeping a close eye on this year. The good news is the weather forecast for the upcoming week looks excellent, and if conditions stay stable, we expect the fishing to remain productive. If you’ve been thinking about a Baja fly fishing trip for roosterfish, dorado, tuna, marlin, jacks, or even wahoo opportunities, now is a great time to get in touch. We’re always happy to help anglers put together the right trip, whether you’re planning a dedicated fly fishing adventure or simply looking to get on the water while visiting Baja. Feel free to reach out anytime—we’d love to help you plan your next fishing trip. The Reel Baja Baja Fly Fishing | East Cape, Magdalena Bay & BeyondLocal Species Available Year Round
