The Reel Baja's Tip of the Week

With the weather getting hot some of the best fishing will be early in the morning and late afternoon. Concrete on those times especially if fishing from the beach. The fish can certainly be active other times of day but those “magic hours” can be some of the best.

5-Day Outlook as of 2/11/26

We expect good weather and good fishing this upcoming week. We will see a little wind in the afternoons from the Southeast it that is typical for this time of year. The fishing should remain steady as the water temperatures are looking good.

Techniques & Tips as of 2/11/26

Inshore - This time of year we see a lot of action early in the mornings as well as the low light hours in the evenings. People tend to over look these time periods. If you want some great action get up and on the water early or fish a little later in the day as those "magic" hours can be great. Offshore - have a few different rods ready from 8wt. to 12/14wt as you never know what you might encounter as far as species and size of fish. It never fails you will be running to a destination and you run into feeding fish on your way. You need to be ready for anything before you leave the dock.

Baja Fly Fishing Report: East Cape & Cabo San Lucas – Yellowtail, Roosters & Dorado Update Fishing along the East Cape has remained fair and steady over the past week. The yellowtail bite continues, but most of the action has been down deep on jigs, with very little surface activity for the fly so far. Mixed in with the yellowtail, anglers are also finding white bonita, adding a little variety to the day. From the beach, opportunities have been better on the calm, clean-water days. Sierra and roosterfish are showing intermittently, and there have been a few occasional dorado cruising the shoreline. It’s not wide open, but for those willing to put in the time, there are definitely fish to be found. Cabo San Lucas Out of Cabo, fishing has been a bit more hit-and-miss. Offshore water has turned slightly green, which has slowed things compared to previous weeks. There are still a few marlin around and the occasional dorado, but it hasn’t been consistent. Inshore, the roosterfish are still present, though the bite has tapered off somewhat. The biggest challenge lately has been bait availability, which has made things tougher for both conventional and fly anglers. Weather & Conditions Typical Baja weather for this time of year continues to treat us well, with highs in the mid-70s and lows in the low to mid-60s, and plenty of sunshine most days. We have seen some wind in the East Cape, but this past week was fairly gentle, giving anglers a nice window to get on the water and along the beaches. ⸻ Overall, conditions feel like a classic seasonal transition—some good days mixed with slower ones. As soon as we see a return of cleaner blue water and better bait, things should bounce right back. Until next time we wish everyone tight lines!
