RIGS Fly Shops & Guide Service's Tip of the Week
East Portal Road has reopened, and the fishing in this stretch has been excellent. Blue-winged olives, both adults and nymphs, are the main item on the trout’s menu right now. With colder weather and shorter days, brown trout have shifted into pre-spawn and spawning behavior. This has them more aggressive, making streamer fishing especially productive, while egg patterns have become a staple in successful rigs. As always, it’s best to avoid targeting browns sitting on their redds—focus instead on the big rainbows stacking up behind them to take advantage of the bounty.
