Orvis Buffalo's Tip of the Week

Streamers may be the best route with all the rain, black and white streamers have been our favorites. When fish aren't eating off the surface fishing nymphs close to the bottom and streamers is a very effective method! https://waterdata.usgs.gov/ny/nwis/uv?site_no=04213500

5-Day Outlook as of 7/21/21

We keep getting rain so look for the headwaters of some creeks. We are supposed to get more rain throughout the rest of the week. Keep your eye on the graph or call us for where to go. Please do not fish any trout water that is above 68 degrees. Look for some fantastic fishing conditions https://waterdata.usgs.gov/ny/nwis/uv?site_no=04213500

Techniques & Tips as of 7/21/21

Indicator and tightline Nymphing are both very effective fish catching methods. Mirage 5x Tippet and leaders offer superior abrasion resistance and invisibility under the water. Flies such as Pheasant tails, Hares ears, Stoneflies, Holy grail caddis with split shot 18 inches above is the way to go! Streamer fishing can be very exciting this time of year! With warmer spring temps trout become a bit more aggressive. Poly leaders with 2x tippet help to get your fly down and in front of hungry trout! Wooly Buggers, Conehead Bunny Muddler, and Muddler Minnows are just some flies to use with this method. Sulphers, march browns and caddis will be the primary hatch at the moment. Superstrong 9' 5x leader will help ensure you present your fly correctly!
