Orvis Buffalo's Tip of the Week

Spring time cannot come soon enough… The Cattaraugus, as well as other areas tributaries are constantly going through a series of endless blowouts. But this is typical for this time of year. Watch for weather to break and keep your eye on the gauge if you want to catch a window of fishable water on the Lake Erie Tributaries. https://waterdata.usgs.gov/ny/nwis/uv?site_no=04213500

5-Day Outlook as of 2/20/25

Try fishing something that is dam regulated like Burt or the Oak. Niagara would also be an option. If you fish the Niagara, be wary of shelf ice and exercise caution when walking along the bank. No fish is worth your life! Other options for fishing during the deep winter months include all of our inland trout streams. Fishing for inland trout during the winter can be highly productive, and offer a beautiful setting and solitude. Give the store a call for opportunities to fish! Tying some flies and filling some boxes for when the weather breaks is also a great way to excited for spring. https://waterdata.usgs.gov/ny/nwis/uv?site_no=04213500

Techniques & Tips as of 2/20/25

Fishing indicator rigs can be the most effective rigs. Especially in the colder moments. Although fishing streamers can be very effective especially in the later part of the day.
