Description: About Northwest Ontario Lakes

The granite shield lakes of North West Ontario consist of hundreds of lakes many of which are connected by rivers and streams. Deep, spring fed lakes sometimes hundreds of feet deep provide some of the best smallmouth bass and walleye fishing in the world along with northern pike and lake trout. The lakes are strewn with plenty of cover and boulder shorelines, dead-falls, bluffs, drop-offs and in-flowing/out-flowing water. This report details 40 square miles of lakes in North Western Ontario just outside of Lake of The Woods and East of Kenora, Ontario. Lakes include waters in Eagle Dogtooth Provincial Park and go as far East as Mirror & Kushog Lakes, as well as Hawk Lake and Little Dogtooth and many of the lakes in between. These lakes (@ 19 in all) are representative of many of the lakes in the area and offer incredible fishing opportunities for the angler.
