Description: About Klamath River

We hear of historical accounts of more fish than water in the highly political Klamath River. Though this river is in a massive rehabilitation program that may culminate with the removal of four dams, it remains a classic antonymous fly-fishing destination. The sheer numbers of its famous Half-Pounder, Steelhead and Salmon runs make this an epic Fall and Winter fishery. The tail-water of Iron Gate reservoir is the termanance and major spawning area for the King Salmon, with steelhead and half pounders along for the smorgasbord the egg bite is phenomenal. The Klamath boast a healthy population of both Wild and Hatchery fish. The limited access gives drift boaters the best opportunities at this west coast classic. The dry fly anglers come from all over to fish the famous Salmon Fly hatch in June. Casting a three-inch dry fly at summer steelhead and trout from a drift-boat has become our local tradition.

No real bug life is affecting the bite. Most fish are being caught on swung flies or rubber legs and eggs.
